Old Mill Singers Concert
June 3, 2023
The Old Mill Singers was formed in the early 1970’s when a nurse from Phelps Hospital asked the organist at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Scarborough if he’d be willing to volunteer to direct a group of hospital workers and volunteers in a small chorale. A group of eight met over the next few weeks, preparing a short Christmas program to perform for the Phelps staff party and patients. After the holiday season, the Phelps hospital administrator suggested that the group try to grow, and a recruitment drive was underway. By 1974, the group, initially named the Phelps Art Society, had 50 members and presented a three night centerpiece show, “A Dutch Treat”, for the Sleepy Hollow bicentennial celebration.
The Old Mill Singers 50th Anniversary concert will be held at the Julie Harris Theater, Clearview School, 480 Albany Post Rd., Briarcliff Manor, NY on June 3rd at 7pm and June 4th at 3PM. Tickets are available through any Old Mill Singers member or at the door. Information is also available on the group’s website: www.oldmillsingers.org.
