More than a decade after AIDS was first identified, Philadelphia marked the first time Hollywood had risked a big-budget film with A-list actors on the subject.
The film follows the story of a gay man, Andrew Beckett, who asks lawyer Joe Miller to help him sue his employers, who fired him after discovering he has AIDS.
